Brownie Rubí, approximately a year and a half old, and Caramelo, around five years old, were found in critical condition. What seemed like abandonment turned into a fight for survival.
Their Health Status: A Critical Case of Animal Abuse in Panama
Brownie Rubí had a fractured hip and femur, severe anemia, and low platelets. She could barely move. However, the ultrasound revealed something else: she was pregnant, with at least six puppies.
Her recovery is complex. The pregnancy demands nutrients that her body needs to heal, which delays the orthopedic surgery she urgently requires.
Caramelo, for her part, was in critical condition: advanced TVT, severe malnutrition, profound anemia, fluid in her lungs, and hypothermia. Despite the veterinary efforts, she died of respiratory arrest.
We couldn’t save her. But she didn’t die alone.
The Importance of Rescue and Immediate Veterinary Care
Each case of abused dogs in Panama involves high medical expenses: blood tests, x-rays, ultrasounds, hospitalization, medications, and surgeries.
